01The landscape

Real-time isn't a buzzword here — it's the requirement.

In most software, "real-time" means "reasonably fast." In logistics and dispatch, it means a driver's location, a route recalculation, and a customer's delivery estimate all need to agree with each other within seconds, continuously, while moving. The gap between a system that's fast and one that's actually real-time is where most logistics platforms quietly underperform — stale map data, dispatch decisions made on three-minute-old positions, ETAs that drift further from reality the longer the route runs.

We build event-driven systems designed around that constraint from the start: streaming location data rather than polling it, routing engines that recompute incrementally instead of from scratch, and dispatch logic that degrades gracefully when connectivity drops — because in this vertical, the network will drop, and the system still has to make a reasonable decision.

Yes — we've integrated with telematics hardware and GPS providers across several fleet setups. Device data quality varies more than vendors advertise, so we build validation and gap-handling into the ingestion layer rather than assuming clean signal.

Graceful degradation is a design requirement, not an edge case, for us. That means caching last-known-good state, queuing updates for sync rather than dropping them, and giving dispatchers a clear signal when they're working with stale data instead of pretending the system is more certain than it is.

It depends on the workflow, and we'll be specific about it before we start — sub-second for live tracking pings, a few seconds for route recalculation, near-instant for dispatch handoffs. "Real-time" gets used loosely in this industry; we define the actual latency budget per use case so there's no ambiguity about what we're committing to.
